How do I get to the main bus stations in Cambridge?

There are three main stations that buses in Cambridge use: Cambridge Central Bus Station, Cambridge Railway Station and Cambridge North Railway Station. They are each located in different areas of the city, with the central bus station in the centre of Cambridge, Cambridge Railway Station south of the centre and Cambridge North Railway Station in the suburb of Chesterton. Since Cambridge Railway Station and Cambridge North Railway Station are also train stations, you can get to either via bus or train. Bus routes 3, A, C, X13 and X3 all stop at Cambridge Railway Station, and Great Northern, Greater Anglia and Thameslink trains all serve it. Cambridge North Railway Station can be reached using bus route 2 or the Cambridge Busway guided bus, as well as Great Northern and Greater Anglia trains.

Do bus stations in Cambridge offer any amenities?

The bus station of Cambridge central itself is very small, but fortunately it is located in a large shopping area of Cambridge. There are two shopping centres nearby (the Lion Yard and the Grand Arcade) as well as a market square and lots of places to eat. Cambridge Railway Station features sheltered bicycle storage, a paid car park and taxi stands, and inside you will find an assortment of shops and eateries, a cash machine, pay phones, toilets and baby-changing facilities, as well as accessible toilets. Small animals must be caged, boxed or kept on a lead.

What do I need before boarding a bus from Cambridge?

If you have bought a mobile bus ticket through the app, make sure you have your phone with the app ready. Otherwise, you can pay with cash or a contactless card on most buses. It is also important to have a form of photographic ID, so it can be verified you are the ticket holder, or the ticket may be confiscated. When using a discounted student ticket, a valid student ID is necessary. This may be in the form of a library card, NUS card, university/college ID card or International Student ID (ISIC), with a recent photo and a name which matches the bus ticket.
