Sensation is back with unique dance experiences
...AND ...UNITE ...IN ...THE ...SOURCE ...OF ...LIGHT, a heavy
voice echoes through the Amsterdam ArenA, the beat pumps, and a cheering
mass of 40,000 people all dressed in white go insane. The theme of Sensation
2012 is 'The Source of Light'.
Every year, Sensation kicks off their worldwide tour in Amsterdam. Dress
code: white. Although the event attends international cities from London
to Copenhagen and Santiago to Seoul, people from all over the world still
go to Amsterdam. ‘This is the premiere of our new show ', says Bas
Meijer, Project Manager of Sensation.
Sensation on Tour
In 2005 Sensation went abroad for the first time. It started with Germany
and Belgium and right after Australia followed. ‘DJ’s know
what's hot and where electronic music is booming’, says Meijer. ‘Based
on their opinion, we choose new places to organize Sensation. ‘The
decors and sometimes also the artists (acrobats and dancers) travel with
the event. If it's too far away, local artists are trained on the spot
in a few days. Although the show is equal everywhere, the line-up varies
at every location.
According to Meijer, there are two reasons that Sensation is asked to
organize the event abroad, instead of simply being copied. ‘A show
like this cannot just be equaled. All the decors, artists, the costs of
hiring a stadium, are simply too expensive for a one-time event. Moreover,
people always prefer ' the real deal ' over cheap copies.’
Dance the night away
Back at the Amsterdam ArenA. It’s 4.a.m. Four large masks are hanging
from the ceiling where the DJ’s face is projected on. 40,000 people
dressed in white are still cheering and they’re dancing like there’s
no tomorrow. The phenomenal light show and incredible dancers bring the
crowd to a higher state of mind.
Sensation has over the years become leading in the technical field, says
Bas Meijer: ‘For example, last year we had a moving roof, now the
masks with the projections. These things have not been done before. Every
year, we deepen the themes and incorporate them in the show.’
At Sensation, we meet Sonia from Spain. She is at the event with her siblings
and stays at the Ibis Hotel, Schiphol. She has booked via Sensation Travel,
because the single tickets were sold out within a few hours.' This was
the only way to obtain tickets. Half the hotel is filled with people who
are here on Sensation ', she says. ‘To be in a hotel with other Sensation
visitors and share the experience enlarges the party mood.”
Travel packages to Sensation events
Sensation Travel offers packages to Sensation events worldwide. The packages
can be booked until a number of weeks before the event, while single tickets
during official sales often sell out within a few hours.
Those who booked tickets for Sensation Amsterdam this year at Sensation
Travel could choose from 29 hotels in Amsterdam from simple to luxury.
Prices range from approximately 200 to 500 euros for the hotel stay, a
regular ticket for the event and a bus transfer to and from the Amsterdam
ArenA.
In hotel Casa 400, Amsterdam-Oost, many Sensation visitors check in. The
special Sensation-desk in the lobby, where guests get their tickets and
information on arrival is always packed. In their rooms, Sensation guests
find a goodie bag that comes with the travel package.
"Guests who stay in the more expensive hotels often book extras, such
as a transfer with limousine', tells Haydi Moustafa, Project Manager at
Sensation Travel. ‘But we make sure that everyone who books at Sensation
Travel enjoys the Sensation experience."
Upcoming events
This year, Sensation will be organized at two new continents, the USA
(New York) at 26 & 27th October and Asia (South Korea, Thailand and
Taiwan). ‘This is a very big step for us,’ says Meijer. “I
expect that Sensation is going to have a big impact internationally, especially
since people often look at what is going on in New York, which has a great
impact on the dance scene.'
