A line of dogs sit with tails wagging on a South End street. Amongst Boston’s trendy bars and bagel houses, you will find several bakeries just for dogs, and these mutts know it. Luckily, there is plenty for humans to enjoy, too: kick off the day with blueberry pancakes in a café overlooking the pleasant greenery of the Boston Public Park. It is a city which permits gentle wanderings, so enjoy a ride on a swan boat, or peruse one of the museums on the Freedom Trail.
Boston is sometimes known as Beantown, because the first settlers were obsessed with baked beans cooked in molasses.
At some point, try the fresh lobster or oysters – it is a Boston rite of passage. Choose an oceanfront restaurant with an extra kick of salty sea air. Afterwards, return to the South End for gin cocktails in sultry jazz venues. Boston is a big city with small-town charm – let it bowl you over.
