Tenerife general information

Are you prepared?

Residing the Atlantic Ocean, right in the midst of the gentle Gulf Stream, the island of Tenerife’s main attraction is eternal spring. On the outside of the busy tourist areas you’ll find tropical forests, volcanic mountains, and charming villages which add an appealing local feel to your holiday experience.

With temperatures between 20-25° C all the year round, Tenerife is a highly popular destination for people fleeing the cold northern winter. The comfortable sunny weather on the southern side of the island makes the cities of Playa de Las Americas and Los Christianos visitor favourites. Here, between the palm trees on the esplanade, you’ll find a large concentration of restaurants, bars, and shops with good prices.

Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, is another place to turn to if you’re in the mood for shopping. Santa Cruz also offers a broad cultural selection. This is where you find the new Opera House, the parliament, and the military headquarters.

From all points of Tenerife you can view the island’s volcano, Pico del Teide, which is the highest mountain in Spain with its 3718 metres. Pico del Teide is placed right in the midst of the great lava desert of Las Cañadas, and it’s the first thing that meets your eye when you arrive by plane. Today it’s the national park – an interesting mix of lush pine trees and sterile landscapes of stone. It’s the perfect location for a hike.

In the northern parts of Tenerife you’ll find Puerto de la Cruz, a charming port popular for its authentic ambience. Although the area is rainier than the southern parts of Tenerife, it’s still attractive due to the history and the cultural choices. Look up the original town, Orotava, for a peek into the colonial era. Another spot world famous for its well preserved layout is La Laguna, close to Santa Cruz.

Tenerife gives you the best of both worlds – it’s a lovely mix of cultural choices, a gentle local feel, and sunny beaches.
