Upon arrival to pick up the rental car, I was 30 min early to the scheduled pickup. Because I was early, no one could open the reservation and that I would have to just wait until my scheduled time. I was told that no one in the agency, including the manager, could assist and that if I wanted I could have a "new" reservation for more than double the reserved amount. Then after waiting until the time and finally getting the car, I realized I had been lied to and that the gas tank was no full as reported but rather about 3/4 full. Since they charge more than double the avg price of gas for any difference, this discrepancy is ridiculous.

It was probably the worst experience in renting a car. The manager was trying to up charge, so from 168 originally booked at Kayak the final price became 570. We ended up walking away

Charged me $130 to clean the car at drop off. Over years and years, I’ve never been charged for cleaning. Had I known, I would have pulled off and vacuumed it myself for $5. Didn’t want to miss my flight, or I’d have done it. The staff were great, but the cleaning fee is completely out of the ordinary.

Because of an error on Kayak and terrible customer service from Hertz an entire day of our honeymoon was ruined as we were stranded in rural France. We booked an automatic vehicle via Kayak. Hertz told us that wasn't true and said it would cost nearly $100 more to get a gas vehicle instead of an EV. We were told that there would be plenty of locations to charge the car with the key fob, so we said we would take the EV. Of note, the New Motion App we were told to download to locate charging stations did not work. As we drove to our appointment at Remy Martin in Cognac, the vehicle lost its charge very quickly. After our tour we went to 2 different locations to charge the vehicle, except that both of these locations required subscriptions so we could not charge our car here. The two closest New Motion stations were outside the range of the car. We tried to call the rental agency multiple times, but each time the service hung up on us. As we looked for other locations to charge, we then called the Hertz Roadside Assistance helpline that took over an hour to get an agent. Once we finally got an agent she could not tell us where the other New Motion-compatible charging stations were. She was using google maps, the same as we were, and recommending stations that required subscriptions. Finally in a small town outside of Cognac we found a local hertz agency that was able to direct us to a small grocery store with a charging station. However it took over 4 hours to charge the vehicle to a point that we had enough range to drive it back to the agency. We missed 2 winery tours that we had booked because of this and spent an entire day of our honeymoon stuck at a grocery store in a small rural town.

Car was fine. We tried to contact customer service 10 times to inquire about making a slight modification to our reservation. We spent a few hours going back and forth with different customer service agents until they finally told us that our information was set up incorrectly, so we couldn't make changes online. Every time we spoke to someone, they tried to transfer us to the "international line", which was absolutely useless. It was just an automated line where we couldn't talk to someone. We wasted a lot of time trying to modify our reservation. Please make your international customer service better.
