We had to leave town so we couldn't keep our rental. The Waterford location was closed at 1 pm and we got there maybe 2 minutes later. On a Saturday. On Waterford Budget's website it said there was no after hours drop box for the keys and that you had to do it in person. We couldn't just leave the rental in the driveway of our house because we would be responsible if anything happened to the car. We drove all the way to Flint at the airport since that was the only location other than Detroit airport still open after 1 pm on a Saturday. We get there and they tell me I should wait to return it to the Waterford location, and I tell them I can't because we are leaving town. They had me call customer service and I couldn't even understand the guy I got on the phone. I don't know what kind of accent it was but it was almost impossible to understand him. I have never had a huge problem understanding another accent but this was ridiculous. I explained over and over that we had to leave town unexpectedly and couldn't use the rental anymore. I asked if the fee could be waived ($300 if you don't return it to the same location) because Waterford was closed and I wasn't able to just drop the keys off there. He told me over and over that I'd be charged $300, and didn't understand me asking if it could be waived. After asking the fourth time I gave up. I went to the counter and they told me that's ridiculous and that customer service waives it for other people often. So ticked off, we just returned the car and paid the astronomical bill. So much for being called Budget. Nothing budget about the price we had to pay because our location closed at 1 pm on a Saturday. Never using Budget or Avis again. I'd look at any other rental company if I were anyone else. Not recommended at all.
