I reserved online based on the website recommendation and availability. It confirmed pick up and so I went to pick up. Upon arrival and as I was walking in the office called. They hung up when I walked in and I was informed there wasn’t a car available for pick up. This was at 1/130 pm. The office advised of their policy with $300 refundable deposit but would be held until the car was returned. They also stated proof of address documentation that would be required in order to rent. She said she would follow up with me. I asked the time they closed and was advised they closed at 6pm. I reiterated a call back and she agreed and reassured I’d be getting a phone call. — 2 days later and I still haven’t received that phone call. I totally understand the last minute request but be a woman of her word in the least 🤷🏽♀️

Front desk employee viciously and consistently trying to have me pay for so many unnecessary extras for the rental. Also still no return of deposit it’s been almost 1 month.
The pickup was terrible. Extremely long lines and understaffed customer service. If I schedule a pickup at a certain time I do NOT expect to have to wait 90 minutes to get my vehicle and, worse, have to stand up the whole time waiting. Avis’ onboarding process hasn’t evolved since the 90’s. Their car was only moderately cleaned and mechanically had a moderate vibration issue suggesting bad tires or a bad suspension. THE DEBIT AND CREDIT CARD POLICIES NEED TO BE STATED BOLDLY DURING THE BOOKING PROCESS AND NOT AS FINE PRINT!!! WHERE IN THE BOOKING PROCESS DOES IT TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A FLIGHT ITINERARY TO USE A DEBIT CARD?? WHY WOULD YOU?????? There is a sign at the counter stating this policy. This means that Avis knows this is an ongoing issue with customers. So why wait until the customer gets to the counter to (reveal? emphasize?) the policy? Dumb. Or manipulative, knowing that customers are ‘captive’ at this point (after an HOUR AND A HALF WAIT). Is this a policy only at the airport counters? Is the idea to discourage local travel? Who knows? Who cares?! At this point I’ll be renting elsewhere

Waited 20 minutes for them to bring a car and then the vehicle was a real beater…..lots of scratches and dents. The vehicle should have been retired from the fleet long ago.
The day before my rental I received a confirmation for 15 passenger van. When I arrived to pick it up they did not have one. I got a 12 passenger van instead and wasn’t offered a price adjustment. When I dropped it off I was the one who inquired about a cost difference between the two sizes and asked for an adjustment. This was very frustrating.

JFK Budget RAC was exhibit A of how a business with no manager operates. Walked into the location for a 12 noon reservation and there was total chaos- 50 to 60 people waiting in line ahead of us. 4 or 5 desk agents totally overwhelmed. People who were already checked in were waiting in a separate area for their cars. After nearly 2 hours of waiting in the queue, I checked in. Went to get my car only to find a person already sitting in the car trying to claim the car because they were waiting. I resolved that with the assistance of a lot attendant. While I was waiting in the queue my wife went around to othe car rental companies and saw none of them had this problem. Clearly Budget needs to get a new leader for JFK.

Horrible location far from the airport. Car was disgustingly dirty not cleaned and no full tank of gas. Customer service didn’t care about any of this.

Hertz added additional charges and fees on at the time of check in so the quoted price I paid at time of reservation through Kayak was not accurate. Their check in staff also gave different answers at check in and argued about it in front of me. Also, Hertz grossly overcharged me for gas at return - for a whole tank of gas! I happened to have a photo of the dashboard at check in documenting the tank at 7/8 full (which matched what I wrote on the check in sheet), and had to spend an hour on the phone to get MOST (but not all) of the gas charge refunded. They still charged me for 1/4 tank of gas (which is not cheap at $10.99) a gallon. Overall, this was not a good experience, and I would be very hesitant to rent from this company again.

During pick up the line was way too slow and the Hertz mobile app wasn’t allowing me to pass the desk and go directly to my car as advertised. After calling hertz the reservation was changed in my favor but at the desk the reservation hadn’t changed and I picked up yet another car.

The car was clean and ready at the time specified. The agent who was sucking on cherries and her fingers during check in left a lot to be desired. Talk about poor customer service. 1-sucking your fingers and eating cherries while making sucking noises and then handling my license with your saliva ridden hands and fingers is just plain gross. In a post Covid era I can’t even believe it occurred let alone coworkers didn’t say anything. 2-she was actually obnoxious. When she asked what type of insurance I wanted to get I explained I have full coverage insurance and it’s a business expense regardless. She then went on to tell me with nothing less than 10/10 attitude & 2” fake nails in my face that I would still have to pay. 3-was mad and frustrated that I didn’t want to upgrade GET OVER YOURSELF The drop off agent was pleasant and showed me where to go. She emailed a receipt and I was on my way. The negative review comes solely from the pick up/check in agent. Otherwise I would have given max scoring.

This was a terrible experience, and I will never rent from them again. My flight was delayed, and it took hours to change my pick-up date to the following day. When I finally arrived, I was informed that the luxury car I had reserved was no longer available and they only had a basic car. Additionally, I need to extend my rental by one day, but they are refusing to allow me to do so. In my past experience managing corporate accounts, I have never encountered such issues.
They gave me exactly the car I needed for my trip. It was clean, efficient, and easy to drive.
