The booking price always looks great when reserving in Mexico, but at pick-up they add on mandatory insurance and fees that are usually more than the booking fee. Still a reasonable deal.

The check-in & drop-off process is a total cluster with zero organization or signage to let anyone, no matter what language, knows what to do. Taking 30+ minutes to pick up a car when I'm an Avis member is insulting. Last time in Puerto Vallarta I rented with Hertz & it was a quick & easy in & out process. Guess who I'll be using in the future in Puerto Vallarta? Definitely not Avis...

Overall it was pretty easy. The guys that helped with the inspection and return were professional and friendly. The car was in ok condition, definitely a bit rough around the edges, but it functioned well; the cars do have a hard life down there with the rough roads. Overall an easy experience with no heavy upsell, which is always nice to avoid.

The only thing we didn't like is at checkout no paperwork is given. Instead, they check you out, say thank you and that follow-up will be done via email. Paperwork of expected charges would be comforting.

The car was old and junky. We were charged $1,000 for 27 days then hit for $800 in insurance costs. We got a flat tire and we were charged $100 for the tire repair. We called for roadside assistance and that does not exist. The car key stopped working after one day so we had to change cars. I was told that I got it wet on return and was charged for that. Would recommend not renting from this company. They charge full price and their cars are old and junky. The passenger window did not work. The passenger seat was stuck in one position. It just goes on and they would not give us another car.

We didn’t get car. They wanted $3500 cash as a retainer because we had our own collision and liability insurance. I refused to give them cash and we left without the vehicle. I would never use Economy again or recommend them to anyone. Car rental.com called me and said the agent said we were a no show and that’s why we didn’t get car. I said the agent was lying and we could prove we were there and the car rental.com person changed his story. Complete hustle!

Renting a car in Mexico is a horrible experience. The typical shakedown where they take your money and pocket it. 1st it was a "government fee" then additional insurance. In the end we paid twice as much as what we booked for and had zero coverage which is not what we were told the extra money was for. Unfortunatley renting a car is a must if you want to do any sort of exploring, so I'll bare the pain again in the future. I just wish they would charge you the actual price during booking and remove the shadiness from the deal. It was a total joke. Thanks happy traveler.

e sure to read the fine print. I was quoted 149.00 for 7 days total. Yes it sounds to good to be true and it was. I even have the email that I have read over and over. When I arrived in Puerto Vallerta the price was closer to 500.00. I should have known better,. Their customer servoice was not the best. I walked next door to AVIS and rented a car for 450.00 for 7 days on the spot. I would not recommend ACE ever.....,

This place doesn’t seem to exist. Do yourself a favor and avoid it. Wound up without a car for a couple days and then got hosed through a different company for not having a prior reservation. I won’t say it ruined my trip, but it certainly added a lot of unexpected stress and expense.

Beware Friends! This is a total cash grab! I used Kayak to rent a car in Mexico. What they failed to include in the advertised price was the cost of insurance. The company I my rental was through would only allow you to take the car if you used their insurance or paid the total value of the car up front! Yes that’s right they wanted $14 000.00US. This was false advertisement on Kayak’s part. The price should have included the cost of the non-negotiable insurance price. The insurance was so expensive, we didn’t take the rental. We actually thought it might be a scam. They wouldn’t accept any insurance coverage you have on a credit card or through your own insurance company. The couple in front of us was sold insurance through the booking site AND the car company still would not accept it. Shame on you kayak for not including this information up front. I only found it after in the small print. You can start to fix this by including the total cost of the car + insurance and refunding me my money back.
